Making The Grade

What's your reason for moving to Laval, Quebec? Are you coming to find a job or are you in need of training before you can find the job that you want? If your ambition is to become a family dentist in Mississauga there's no reason why you can't go elsewhere - like to Laval - to train. If you're considering career training while you're in Laval, you'll find this overview of some on Laval's post secondary training institutes helpful.

University of Montreal at Laval

Be forewarned before you decide to apply to the University of Montreal: it is a francophone institution. This means you will have great difficulty successfully negotiating your classes on literature or even contemporary dance if you do not speak French. If you do, however, U Montreal offers a wide array of programs - over 650. There's a special engineering school and another dedicated to business. It is also one of the biggest universities in Canada in terms of enrollment numbers and research.

University of Quebec at Laval

Unfortunately, if you're dead set on a degree program that will eventually allow you to try class action suits in Canada, you must be a francophone if you want to train in Laval. The University of Quebec is the largest French language university in the world, so if you're French this subsidiary campus would be an excellent choice. It has a full array of standard university programs along with specialty offerings like fashion design, cognitive studies, and feminist studies.

College Montmorency

The College Montmorency belongs to the CEGEP family of schools in Quebec, which in layman's terms means it's a pre-university training college and career institute. A French person wanting to be a Toronto event caterer might take a program such as culinary arts or tourism and hospitality. Other programs offered here are of the skilled trades and technical services family. Training programs at College Montmorency last three years while the university preparatory course is two years.

Herzing College

One of the few post secondary institutes that cater to an Anglophone demographic in Laval is Herzing College, which is one of a number of subsidiary schools to the main Herzing University campus in Milwaukee. Herzing College offers diplomas, certificates, and even bachelor's degrees in some disciplines. Programs include computer technology, business, and health care, which would help you if you wanted to work in or run a Toronto naturopathic clinic.
